I know what you're thinking... Really another Ghostbusters? The answer is yes there was and there is a chance for more to follow, but nothing yet confirmed; just discussed. At times, I do understand the frustration of sequels. I do understand the wanting of something original. At times I want that to, but I believe we are in a time period of "GREED". Many writers, like myself have many ideas of new stories and originals, but they are buried with self-doubt; "Are they good? Would people actually like the story? or buried under Greed... "That is not good enough. It won't make money. That's not what people want. They want a new story related to a movie from twenty years ago give or take.
So comes, Top Gun Maverick, the upcoming threequel, Toy Stroy 5, Shrek 5, Incredibles 3, Freakier Friday, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, several other Marvel movies, and Live Action Remakes; the list just goes on and on. Now don't get me wrong, I am one who is excited for sequels aside from another Toy Story, I believe that is done. I digress, contrary to popular opinion I believe sequels are original stories. I mean yes they are coming off a previous story, but yet it's still a different story just continuing with the same characters. Also, despite popular Opinion I love the Live Action remakes, because the stories are expanded and me personally I get lost in live action stories, because for a little while I believe it's real, until the end credits role and I return to reality. It's a little hard to do that with animated, because it's computer generated and you just know it's fake and there's no grabbing that sense that it could be real. No disrespect to the artists, you all do great I just love getting lost in stories.
But we didn't visit this page for the remakes and the many sequels. We came to this page for one sequel in particular. A sequel to a 40 year old franchise... Ghostbusters.
Before I go any further, I would like to give a fair warning that I may annoy some of you who are huge Ghostbusters fans. So, beware is you continue beyond this point.
I did not watch the original Ghostbusters until the "Remake" in 2016 came to be. Though that one got insanely ridiculed, I actually liked it.
I know... I know... Does he have taste? Yes, I can hear the questions now. But I did. Because it was funny, and I got lost in the story, but after watching this remake it made me want to watch the originals. So, not for the remake I would've probably never watched the originals.
Yes, I liked the originals. I do watch them periodically, but unfortunately, I preferred the remake. Though, I would've written the remake a little differently.
Oh? Did you notice? I said Preferred... For five years I was in the very small minority group of those that liked the remake, and yes I am still part of that group, but no I no longer prefer it to the originals.
Five years later, Ghostbusters: Afterlife came out, and I had a new found respect for the franchise. A heart that the remake did not catch. Afterlife recreated that heart, by bringing in family, and respect for the original crew
I now watch the originals more, but no I still do not prefer the originals.
"What," you say?
It's true. I don't. For the very same reason of my issues with animated movies. I can't get lost in the story. The technology needed was just not there yet.
Now... What we really came to this page for. My review on Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. This sequel is my favorite of the franchise.
I loved Afterlife. Yes, it started slow, but the story, the buildup, just phenomenal. I got lost in it and got lost especially in the ending.
Though, I enjoyed Afterlife. Frozen Empire caught me and stole me into the franchise. I got lost in the story, I felt like it was real and intense.
The struggle of finding oneself when outside forces believe what you want is not what's best for you.
You begin to believe that no one understands you. McKenna Grace captures that essence and feeling very well as her character continues on her journey.
Frozen Empire also brings back most of the original crew. All except Harold Ramis as Egon Spengler, for obvious unfortunate reason, may he rest in peace. This sequel takes us back to New York. Where it all began and how they've progressed since the original. This movie is a true sequel, he gave us closure and it gave us an opening. The possibility of more, but also the peace of being okay if there isn't anymore. The visuals are amazing and the story is beautiful! I definetely have a newfound love for Ghostbusters and will continue to watch the originals, Afterlife and Frozen Empire!
