Zack Snyder's Justice League

Production of Justice League began in 2016, back in 2017 the Theatrical bomb of Justice League taken over by Joss Whedon after Warner Bros declared it unwatchable. After a historic fan rally, #ReleasetheSnyderCut, Warner Bros finally gave in and let Zack Snyder return and finish his original vison of the Justice League to be released and help promote the new HBO Max streaming service. A long awaited version of a movie that would go on to break records and launch a whole new fan movement, and let's say after this four hour masterpiece I can't help. but get on board. #RestoretheSnyderverse
As a long time, DC Fan, myself, this movie was a dream come true and I must say I was highly disappointed with the theatrical version in 2017. But thrilled that Zack Snyder got to release his vision!
In all honesty, I am more of A DC fan, because I like the dark touch to the story lines. In my opinion, it has a more relatable feeling as to how heroes are born, but I do enjoy Marvel and the often comedic works, but it would seem Warner Brothers, is getting a little too jealous of the success of Marvel and they are trying to beat them, but by doing so, it's like they are trying to give the DC Movies a "Marvel" touch and you can't do that without expecting it to flop. DC and Marvel are like comparing apples and oranges. They are meant to stand apart, and Zack Snyder knows that, and his DC Movies, are quite honestly a masterpiece in my book!
Let's just say, that Batman is my favorite. Honestly an oversimplification, flat out obsessed to put it mildly. Everything Batman related, I must have it, but when it comes to the actors, I tend to be a little over critical. With that being said, I do firmly believe that Ben Affleck, is one of the best actors to take on the role. When first announced, I will admit, I was not onboard with the casting, but he certainly went on to prove me wrong. He brought a performance that I didn't believe I would ever see in a Live Action Batman adaptation! Amazing martial arts skills and most importantly, detective skills.
In the past a lot of directors would try to lighten up the character. Batman was always meant to be the darkest character in the DC Universe, with an even darker backstory. The way he has been written in movies, though decent, was never done the amount of justice the character deserves. With I would like to thank Ben Affleck with a flawless performance for my favorite character!
A lot of people do critique, comic movies and even book adaptations on every detail missed that was in the books, but the way I see it, movies were never exactly meant to be solely a copy of the book, that is why they used the phrase "based on", for me if they follow the overall story and stay true to a character essence, I am fine. But I would be lying if I didn't want to see certain things be adapted into the movies. Like a certain Batman detail. Batman never used guns, due to how his parents were killed, his emblem even has an interesting fact, it was made by the melted gun that was used in the murder of his parents. Sadly though, they have never gone that way in a movie, but I would be nice to see that adapted into a movie.
When it comes to Superman, I'm a little more critical than I should be. Throughout the years there have been so many great actors to take on the role, but I'm sure with playing this role comes serious difficulty, playing someone that in all honesty is bigger than yourself, in terms of having only one weakness. That's probably why, now don't attack me, this is just my opinion but why most Superman movies and shows are cheesy storylines. Mostly always the same story being told, with exception to Smallville and of course Henry Cavill's portrayal. Yes, I do like Cristopher Reeve's version he was great, and so was Dean Cain's but sadly they, in my views didn't age very well.
Henry Cavill’s portrayal brought a new insight with my opinion on the character. He brought a new, "human" touch to the character and helped me connect and relate to him in ways I never experienced with a Superman portrayal.
In the theatrical version, Joss Whedon destroyed that. He made the character as cheesy as he's ever been if not more, which is remarkable. Removing the flaws and just destroying the amount of damage a soul could take when dying and coming back. Thankfully, Zack Snyder fixed that, and brought that touch of darkness it takes to have experienced such an ordeal. I give praise to Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill for making a Superman fan out of me!
Now, I must admit, I'm not as intuitive to the character of Wonder Woman. Honestly the only time I've really watched her was a few episodes of the Justice League animated show and the periodic animated movies. Gal Godot is honestly the first Live Action adaptation I got to see, or at least remember. Sorry to Lynda Carter, though I do look forward into buying her series and watching her version!
Now, knowing that, I am sorry to say I don't know the character as well as I'd like to, but so far Gal Godot has made a wonderful performance in her portrayal, just like Superman, playing a character above man is as I'm sure very difficult, but she doesn't let it be seen! She puts a certain humility into the role and personalizes it.
She brings that heart to the team of heroes who have experienced dark and difficult times throughout their lives and doesn't try to overshadow anyone else. She knows how to work with a team and getting to know about the character through her performance makes me love the character and look forward into seeing more from her!
In the theatrical version of the movie, what I hated is how it was implied that she just knew what was happening and who was the villain just by looking at the arrow. In Zack Snyder's version I love how Zack fixed that and explained how she knew! Details in stories are very important, and when approaching characters in a way unlike Marvel, with separate movies before a team up, there is details and stories that just need to be said, even if that means doing a long movie like this!
The Flash happens to be my second favorite character, and I have been looking forward to seeing his appearance in a Live Action movie! I was a little leery, however, with a new actor and not seeing Grant Gustin, but I expected it to happen soon. I must admit when the theatrical version came out, it did not do the character justice and didn't get me on board with Ezra Miller playing the role. It just seemed he was just thrown into the movie for the sake of having one of the main league members.
I was looking forward to his solo movie to see if that would change, but thankfully with Snyder's cut it brought me on board. We get to see Ezra bring to life and personalize the character and brought his quirkiness and I loved it. Looking forward to his solo movie more now, and I'm not just saying that seeing how not only Ben Affleck is returning but so is Michael Keaton is bringing back his Batman! Very excited for that, but I am looking forward to getting more of a look as Ezra Miller as The Flash!
Zack Snyder's version brought towards more of a look into Barry's life that Joss Whedon didn't let us see and more of The Flash's gifts! And after Ezra's brief cameo in the CWverse with Grant Gustin I expect a very trippy movie next year!
I was very critical when Aquaman was announced to be coming. Never really liked the character, always super cheesy and to me just seemed very stupid. I didn't expect much when I first heard the announcement, let alone my views to change of the character.
With the theatrical version, it didn't really change my views, though I saw promise with the change. It wasn't until Jason Mamoa's solo movie that shattered my original opinion. He brought an epic performance to the role and made the character more real than he has ever been. Jason Mamoa's performance made me say something I never thought I would ever say that I am a fan of Aquaman.
Though his appearance in Zack Snyder's cut wasn't that much different I was more excited to see more of his character and it was definitely a great addition to the DC Extended Universe. I'm glad about all the changes we're about to see in the movies that Jason gets to still play the character.
Though I am very bummed that we most likely won't get to see more of this version of the Justice League, I can't wait to see more of these coming movies unfold!
I wasn't sure about Cyborg's appearance. His character just hasn't done well in history with Live Action. Barely, even animated. I was more in the dark with his character than Wonder Woman. With the theatrical version, I didn't like his part. Much like the Flash, it felt like he was just thrown in there just because it would make sense with his absence.
I didn't really have high expectations when it came to his future down the line, and I wasn't sure with Snyder's version either. I just was set that; the character is just one of those that is supper difficult to work with and bring into any project. With Zack Snyder's version, he brought his story in play. He gave him a role that just didn't exist to begin with and brought a whole deeper meaning to Cyborg.
Ray Fisher brought such conviction in bringing a difficult character to life and I give him praise, especially with Snyder's vision being released and letting me and other fans see just how great of an actor he is and letting us see an amazing version of Cyborg. I really hope Snyderverse prevails, but sadly won't hold my breath. I am very bummed that we most likely won't get to see more of this version of the character moving forward.
Now, moving forward there is so much more praise I want to give to characters, but as I said these reviews are Spoiler Free! So, I will move my praise to Zack Snyder, I'd like to say Thank you for bringing a childhood dream to live and letting me see such an amazing Justice League movie!
Zack Snyder's Justice League is an incredible masterpiece. A definite work of art and a must see for any DC Fan like myself. For those who are unaware, it is a four hour movie so if you do want to sit down and watch it, make sure you are ready to sit through it! But I am about ninety percent sure that you won't regret it!
You can find it on HBO Max, and it will be available in stores September 7th! Go Check it out!!
